I'm obliged to Martyn Jones - callsign GW6ITJ - who sent me the above Excel file. It includes a veroboard template and a few common component shapes. Martyn has also included a sample layout. You can place, move and resize the components on the veroboard background. You can also create new component shapes as required.

For those who don't have access to Excel - I've converted Martyn's file into an OpenOffice - EasyCalc file. Users of Linux are likely to have EasyCalc already. And Windows users can download the free Windows compatible version from WWW.OpenOffice.Org This is a truly comprehensive suite of programmes - and they are all absolutely free. But be warned - it's a big download (130Mb).

For those who don't have access to broadband - I've taken the liberty of converting Martyn's really authentic looking veroboard layout - into a graphics file. It will print out on a standard A4 sheet. Simply right-click on the drawing and choose "Print Picture..." from the context menu. Then all you need is a pencil - and eraser. This is Martyn's preferred way of beginning a new design project.
